Medical
and Police Services Team
(M.a.P.S.)
This team consists of members from the Oxford
Police Department and the Oxford Fire Department. These dedicated
individuals have received numerous hours of training in Military-Style Squad
Tactics along with extensive training in Tactical Medicine from recognized
training organizations. After the initial training, this style of
training has continued on a regular basis.
The Medical
and Police Services (M.a.P.S.) Team is not meant to replace the State
Police or Regional Tactical Teams, but rather an immediate “Rescue
Response” whose only objective is the rescue of the injured and the continued preservation of life and
safety. Ideally the team is designed to deploy into a hostile situation with
a limited number of team members, and a communication liaison. The team will use the
tactics and equipment deemed appropriate for the situation. This
includes, but not be limited to, radios, medical supplies, diversion
devices, and ballistic
protection.
The team members are all local residents, who are dedicated to serving the
community and are able to respond in a
rapid manner should the need arise.
Even though they are well versed in Tactical Law Enforcement and Medical
Response, they have limited their objectives to the rescue of injured
personnel. They are designed to stand down when all of the injured personnel or
potentially injured persons are removed from the threat environment.
It is important to note that nothing is set in stone
and the environment that a Tactical Team operates in is fluid. Split second decisions are made
amongst the Team Leadership and are followed by the team. Each operation
must be looked at separately and judged separately.
This team has one ultimate goal, "Preservation of Life". These
highly motivated and dedicated individuals provide;
"Quality Care,
when
the Scene is NOT SAFE !! "
